Snake Hamster

Aspen Wood Bedding is a clean, natural hardwood substrate that works across your whole animal room — hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and many reptiles and inverts.

Unlike pine and cedar shavings, aspen is a hardwood with no aromatic oils, which is why keepers and exotic vets so often reach for it as a default bedding. Kiln-dried and screened to reduce dust and fines, it stays soft underfoot, absorbs well, and holds a burrow or tunnel so small pets can nest the way they would in the wild.

This 200g pack is a practical trial or top-up size — good for a single small enclosure, a spot-clean refill, or testing before you commit to a bulk bag.

Why keepers choose aspen

  • No aromatic oils — hardwood, not pine or cedar, so nothing to irritate sensitive airways
  • Low dust — kiln-dried and screened to reduce fines and mess
  • Holds a burrow — soft, light strands that pack just enough for tunnelling and nesting
  • Absorbent and easy to spot-clean — soiled areas lift out cleanly, so a full change-out lasts longer
  • Natural and untreated — no dyes, no added fragrance
  • Genuinely multi-species — one bag for the small mammals, the snake, and the gecko

Suitable for

Small mammals: hamsters (Syrian & dwarf), gerbils, mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, degus Reptiles: corn snakes, ball pythons, king snakes, leopard geckos, and other dry-habitat species Also used for: hedgehogs, sugar gliders (as a floor layer), and as nesting material for birds and inverts

How to use

  1. Clean and fully dry the enclosure before adding new bedding.
  2. Lay 2–3 inches (5–8 cm) for small mammals so they can burrow. For snakes and geckos, 1–2 inches is usually enough.
  3. Spot-clean soiled patches daily and replace the full bedding every 1–2 weeks, depending on the animal and enclosure size.
  4. Store the unused portion sealed in a cool, dry place.

Good to know

  • Aspen is a dry substrate. In humid Philippine conditions, keep it dry and spot-clean often — damp wood bedding can develop mould.
  • Not recommended as the main substrate for high-humidity species (e.g. crested geckos, most tropical frogs and tarantulas) — those do better on coco husk, coco fibre, or a bioactive mix.
  • Wood substrates aren't advised for very young rodents in the first days after birth or for animals recovering from respiratory illness unless your vet approves.
  • Natural product — strand size and colour vary slightly between batches.
